Class Descriptions
Main Company
5-6 year olds
Working with the small child's
highly developed sense of imagination starts these children on the way
to enjoying theatre. The skills we most concentrate on deal with listening,
following directions, respect for others and their ideas, sharing and
directing their imaginative play.
Middle years
These children start using
improvisation, creating situations and scripted material, develop characterization,
mime, utilizing stage areas and props and do this mostly through theatre
games. Their skills begin to include thinking on their feet, focus,
correct vocal production and articulation as well as working with the
skills introduced to the younger children.
Teen years
More of the same in skills
and content areas, but we take it further. They are also introduced
to good theatre material, study some of the greats, do more advanced
improvisation, focus, characterization, vocal production, character
interaction, develop their individual strengths and work on their weaknesses.
Games are also a part of their classes, but many more other activities
are used.
Teen Company
This is a special group of
student we term "theatre kids" who continue to advance in
life skills and theatre skills using many diverse activites. In addition,
they learn and utilize skills needed by stage managers, directors, producers
and public relations persons. Their technical knowledge enhances their acting skills by forays into the
areas of make up, costumes, sound, lighting and set-building.
Special Classes
Often we have offered special
classes such as puppetry, special make-up classes, folk and stage dance,
skills necessary for musical theatre and others.
