Alumni Reunion a Success
Over 40 alumni, guests, teachers
(both current and former) and board members gathered at CTW on July
30th for reminiscences, catching up, food and entertainment. The entertainment
was both live from current CTW Road Show performers and from several
TV’s set up with video recorders playing some of CTW’s past
plays.
Those alumni who had classes
in our current building were surprised and delighted by the improvements,
especially to the chapel theater. Until the last few years, it had been
mainly a storage room. To see it set up with theater seating, permanent
lights, dressing room, box office, concession stand and real tech booth
was wonderful.
Thanks go to Patrick McCarty
and his committee of volunteers who contacted past students and planned
the activities. Thanks also go to Dottie Zimmerman and the Road Show
crew for all the hours of rehearsals preparing the show that capped
the evening.
We’ll see you next
year at this annual event that we hope will grow and grow and grow.
Announcing CTW’s 50th
Birthday Bash
The Children’s
Theatre Workshop will celebrate it’s Fiftieth birthday on August
28, 2004. An open house from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. will provide alumni
and friends as well as interested parties the opportunity to tour our
newly improved facility. At noon, we will blow out the candles on five
birthday cakes; one for each decade of CTW’s history. Our traveling
company will provide a short program following the cake cutting ceremony.
We are trying to get a few representatives from each decade of our history
to blow out the cake candles. Past Board members and alumni will be
present. Look for the one page flyer in this newsletter and hang it
on your refrigerator so you don’t miss this big event! Please
join us.

Workshop® Casting Call
On August 22, 2002,
we welcomed a friendly crowd to the Eastwood Theatre. The evening included
displays of CTW’s history. Sue Clapp and Teen Company volunteers
assembled these. A performance by our teens, of a review of some of
our past shows and what CTW means to them was a special treat. The show,
produced and directed by Dottie Zimmerman, was the highlight of the
evening. Hors d’oeuvres arranged by Sharon Enck-Welch included
table service donated by the Toledo Club.
The Cornerstone
East Church donated the use of the facility. The guest list included
City council President Peter Ujvagi and City councilman Robert McCluskey.
Mr. Ujvagi presented a proclamation to Ann Flagg, CTW Board President,
celebrating CTW’s attempts to purchase the Eastwood theater. Other
guests included representatives of The East Toledo Community Center
and Pastor Don Black of the East Toledo Baptist Church. $1300.00 was
donated that evening to the building fund.
We are still negotiating
the Eastwood purchase. Recent meetings have included Mayor Jack Ford,
Tim Yenrick of the East Toledo Community Center, Don Monroe of the River
East Revitalization committee, and Charter One Bank. To date, we have
not received offers of financial assistance and must continue our efforts
to raise funds for this project.
